Abstract: The “Lexicon and Style” Symposium aims to bring together researchers working on different speech genres, checking how the lexical choices produce meaning effects. The main objective is to associate the studies of the Lexicon with Semantic, Stylistics, Sociolinguistics and Discourse Analysis.The Lexicology privileges the word as its main object of study. The symposium aims to address the word not in dictionaries, but the word and its meaning/function in its context or macro context. It is understood that in order to dispart the whole into its parts – the lexical units – considerations about the enunciation joint and its overall meaning and the components of communicative situation, as context – linguistic and extra-linguistic – identity of the subjects and socio-historical conditions must be made. Through the lexical choice and interpretation, it is possible to understand the ideological aspects involved in gender, realize the parties intentions, check the construction of lexical-semantic fields, note how occurs the relationship between the conceptual elements, which present objective characteristics of reality, and affective elements which require consider the positions of those who use the lexical units.Therefore, the Symposium aims to show that the words contribute to the production of meaning effects, and through them, it is possible to achieve a list of distinct values.
