Title: TEACHING OF TEXTUAL PRODUCTION: CORRECTION, EVALUATION AND REWRITING

Abstract:  The objective of this symposium is to discuss correction, evaluation and rewriting processes of texts produced by elementary and high school students. In order to have a positive effect on teaching practice, it is necessary that these processes are based on objective criteria that function as consistent benchmark to analyze students’ texts, enabling not only the monitoring of student’s performance, but also the work of school to development the written expression. It is essential, however, that teacher explicits these criteria so that students know the requirements of a good text and understand the correction and evaluation. Then, problems identified will work as a “showcase” of the students’ level of development and difficulties and may serve as the basis, for example, to linguistic analysis activities (GERALDI, 1997). According to the PCNs of Portuguese Language (BRASIL, 1997), during correction and evaluation, teacher may take the audit function of their students’ texts, driving them to look for problems to be solved during rewrite. In this one, text is reread, redone and recreated, developing in students critical attitudes towards their own production. Thereby, responsible correction and evaluation will reinforce teacher’s role as a mediator or facilitator of the learning process of written production (Antunes, 2009), analysing linguistic and textual aspects.
