Abstract: As far as PROFLETRAS is concerned, we had in mind the needs that we have been observing in courses focusing on teacher training, especially for the lower grades among teachers with a more theoretical knowledge of aspects of phonology, which would foster practice and contribute to the solution of many problems with an emphasis on writing. That was our initial assumption. And based on the reports after two years, our assumption was correct. While Phonology is a part of the curricular grade of the graduation course in Modern Languages, it is not taught from a perspective of possible application in the classroom. This has contributed to the persisting problems throughout basic education which may linger to higher education. And that’s how we design the course. Specific content, without the need for theoretical deepening beyond what is necessary, and with a focused basis for the classroom, dealing with the most common phonological processes which are part of students’ life. This proposal also is compatible with the content needs from those who attend PROFLETRAS. The purpose of our talks is therefore to present, in general, what we think about the Phonology course as we understand it in a graduation major, as it is the case of PROFLETRAS.
